On the road to Trinidad’s most north-easterly point (Toco) is situated Rampanalgas. The journey to this beautiful bay, adjacent to some extraordinarily pretty cliffs, takes the traveler past more popular beaches such as Salybia and Balandra Bay toward the village of Rampanalgas. For the adventure seeker interested in Trinidad’s flora and fauna, Rampanalgas offers a series of host homes, though nearby “eco-resorts” are available for tourists with differing tastes.
This drive north along the East Coast runs adjacent to beaches which are popular with ecotourists for annual leatherback turtle nesting in March through August. Nature Seekers is Trinidad’s premier option for guided turtle watching tours which can be experienced in nearby Matura. Individuals are asked not to be on nesting beaches without appropriate permits during nesting season as the global leatherback population is currently listed as “vulnerable”, with populations decreasing worldwide.
